Students will be introduced to object-oriented programming and elements of the Java language while learning to code their text-based RPG (roleplaying game). No programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with everyday tasks using a computer operating system (text-editing and understanding directory structures) and keyboarding is required. Discover the world of 3D design and printing with TinkerCAD in this creative, hands-on camp. Students will develop 3D modeling skills while designing a custom pendant, unique dice, and other Dungeons & Dragons–inspired projects. When not actively designing, campers can join themed challenges and games that extend their creativity while waiting for prints to finish. Each participant will have a pendant or keychain and a die printed and sent home at the end of camp. All printing and material fees are included. Students should bring a USB drive on the final day.

Students will team up in groups of two to three to explore the LEGO® Mindstorms robotic system and specialized Technic™ engineering components. Each day, they will design and program robots to take on exciting Olympic-style challenges that test strength, speed, and creativity. Throughout the camp, students will be encouraged to re-engineer their creations, making them stronger, faster, and more innovative. Possible projects include a shot put launcher, flipping gymnast, and sumo-bot, along with other high-energy challenges that inspire teamwork and problem solving.

Yes, we CAN learn about robotics! With the LEGO™ WeDo Robotics System, young children can build and program their robotic creations. Young imaginations soar! The LEGO® Education WeDo™ Robotics Builder allows students to explore different robotic themes. Students working in teams will work with simple machines, program models they design and create, measure time and distance, write, and much more!

As the week continues, they’ll shift into coding, building Nintendo-inspired games such as maze challenges, coin-catching adventures, and drawing with Pikachu. Topics include design principles, mechanisms, pneumatics, pressure, prototyping, and energy. Possible builds include a scissor lift, stamping press, robotic arm, robotic hand, animatronic scarecrow, and even a dinosaur, blending creativity with engineering problem solving.

Students will begin by building robotic beasts and monster machines such as a Robo-Dog, Mega-Gorilla, Insectoid Bot, and the Scorpion Warrior. Once their robots are built, they’ll dive into programming to make them move, attack or even think on their own. In this camp, students will capture a PC gaming session and add a voice-over to bring their gameplay to life. In the first half of camp, they’ll learn tricks filmmakers use for better shots, practice capturing gameplay, and add sound effects.
